One of the things that will be changing in this merger, regarding our governance, is an increased involvement of official church members in some of the decisions regarding our church. Although MTC has never emphasized membership, Mt. Comfort UMC has a long and beautiful history of committed members participating in this process. There are a few times throughout the year that church members are called together to help make some important decisions (electing leaders, approving budget, etc.) about our church. I want your voice to be a part of that important process.

As we move forward in our merger with Mt. Comfort UMC, I am asking for those who feel led to become official members. It is important that this merger starts out on equal footing between the congregations, and membership is a key component to this process. However, I’m not asking that you become members of what we have been. Instead, I’m asking you to step out in faith and become members of what we will be as Mt. Comfort UMC.

The heart of MTC has never been about a name, it’s been about meeting people where they are and breaking down barriers. And even more specifically, it’s been about you who live into that mission as part of the MTC Family. As we merge with Mt. Comfort UMC, adopting that name as our own, the heart of the church will not change. And to help ensure that, I am grateful to continue as your pastor, leading us forward with the same passion and determination I have for the past 11 years and for many years to come.

I’m excited for what God has in store for us, and I’m as committed as ever to what it means to be the church in our community and beyond. This is an opportunity, an invitation, for you to join me by being “all in”; members who care about the future of our church and how we live into God’s continual call to transform lives in the name of Jesus.

Membership is centered around 5 key promises… As a member of Mt. Comfort UMC you’ll promise to support our church with your prayers, your presence, your gifts, your service, and your witness. As your pastor I am proud that many of you already do this, making becoming official members a mere exclamation point on your dedication to our church.

On May 5th we are planning a day of celebration. After worship we will recognize those of you who want to be members, we will have a meeting to answer questions about this merger and approve the work of our Cooperative Ministry Executive Team (this is one of those times in which members help make those decisions by voting to adopt the recommendations), and of course we will eat a fantastic Cinco De Mayo feast. Whether you choose to become a member of Mt. Comfort UMC or not, I hope you’ll join us for this important day.

If you are willing to become official members of Mt. Comfort UMC please fill out your information in the form below so I can follow up with you, answer any specific questions you may have, and explain exactly what will be happening moving forward. I appreciate your willingness to consider this next step in your call to be a part of our church family. Be Blessed!
