WebAbout the Program. The Family Maintenance Enforcement Program ( FMEP) is a free service of the British Columbia Ministry of Attorney General. It collects over $200 million each year for 37,000 BC families. We help families and children entitled to maintenance (child support and spousal support) under maintenance orders or agreements. WebFMEP can: collect the amount owing under a maintenance order or agreement, including any arrears and special or extraordinary expenses. track payments by having the payor send the maintenance to FMEP Payment Services. forward the maintenance to the recipient. take enforcement action if payments are not made.

WebEnforcement Actions. If the payor falls into arrears federal and provincial laws give us the authority to take a number of actions, such as: We look at each case individually. The action or actions we choose will depend on the payor’s history, how much money the payor owes, and what we know about the payor’s current situation. WebBy Online Banking. The payor should send payments to FMEP using online banking. Electronic payments are the best option because the payor can: set up automatic recurring payments. get a payment to FMEP within two business days. make a payment at any time from virtually anywhere.
WebFMEP can: charge interest and default fees on late or missed payments. report the payor to a credit reporting agency. take enforcement action to collect maintenance. If the payor does fall behind, here are some options: contact us about a Voluntary Payment Arrangement. consider changing the maintenance order agreement. WebWithdrawing from the Program. To withdraw from the program, the person who enrolled the maintenance order or agreement with FMEP needs to send a request in writing. If it was the recipient who enrolled, the recipient can withdraw at any time. If it was the payor who enrolled, the payor cannot withdraw unless the recipient also agrees to ...
