WebUnder the leadership of Goodyear Tire & Rubber founder F.A. Seiberling, the Akron Metropolitan Park District (later Summit Metro Parks) was established in 1921. Local farmer Joseph Courtney made the first land donation during Akron’s centennial celebration in 1925, which is marked with a boulder that can still be seen today.
